Holman, (nee Hodge) Millicent

Millicent (Melicent) Hodge was born on 19 January 1794 at Wendron, Cornwall, England. She was the daughter of Edward Hodge (1763-1819) and Millicent (nee Pascoe) (1767-1853). Religion – Wesleyan Methodist (Uniting Church). John Holman (senior) aged 23 years, married Millicent (nee Hodge), also aged 23 years, on 11 December 1818 in Wendron, Cornwall. They arrived at Port Adelaide from Liverpool with eight of their children (3 sons and 5 daughters – marked *) from Crowan, Cornwall on 7 June 1839 aboard Sir Charles Forbes. Six of their children, all under the age of three, had died in Cornwall before they embarked for Australia. They had a total of fourteen children:

  • Philippa (1819-1856) * married John Peterson at Holy Trinity Church in Adelaide on 28 October 1839
  • Mary (1820-1821) died as an infant
  • Elizabeth (1821-1856) * married John Snoswell (1819-1873) on 2 January 1843 at Holy Trinity Church, Adelaide
  • Mary (1822-1860) * married Sampson Bastian junior at the Wesleyan Chapel in Gawler Place, Adelaide on 20 March 1845
  • John (1823-1866) * married Ann Bastian at St Stephen’s Anglican Church, Willunga on 8 April 1851
  • James (1824-1826) died as an infant
  • Susanna (1826-1851) * married William Higgins on 4 March 1843 at Holy Trinity Church, Adelaide
  • James (1827-1903) * married Susanna Atkinson at St Stephen’s Anglican Church, Willunga on 12 September 1852
  • Jane (1828-1915) * married (1st) Thomas Williams (1833-1863) on 25 February 1850 at St John Church, Adelaide; (2nd) Nicholas Luhning (1827-1871) in 1869 in Victoria; (3rd) John Bell (1830-1896) in Victoria in 1873
  • William (1830-1903) * married Juliana (Julianna) Davey on 17 May 1853 at St George Church, Gawler
  • Henry (1832-1833) died as an infant
  • Edward (1833-1833) died as an infant
  • Henry (1835-1835) died as an infant
  • Grace (1836-1836) died as an infant

Millicent Holman (nee Hodge), aged 55 years, died on 12 March 1850 at Willunga.
