John Robert(s) Percy Male was born at Medrose in the parish of St Teath Cornwall, England on 1 September 1842. He was the oldest son of Francis Male (1820-1895) and Harriet (née Percy) (1821-1896). John (15) arrived with his parents Francis (36), Harriet (35) and his younger brother William (9) on Burlington, which arrived in Port Adelaide on 13 February 1857 from Plymouth. John’s cousin William Browne Male (son of his uncle Moses), aged 23 years, also travelled aboard on the same voyage of Burlington. John Robert(s) Percy Male, aged 23 years, married Elizabeth Cornelius, aged 22 years, (1843-1936) at the Wesleyan Chapel, Willunga on 17 August 1865. They had 12 children:

  • Walter (1866-1956) born at Willunga, married Elizabeth Annie Allan (nee Simpson) (1861-1947) in 1924 in Western Australia; he died at Mt Lawley, Western Australia
  • Horace James (1867-1942) born at Willunga, married Jane Roper on 26 December 1900 at St James Church, Glenburn (now Delamere); died at Malvern, South Australia
  • Laurian (or Laureen) (1869-1962) born at Willunga, married James Waye on 24 September 1895 at her father’s residence; she died in Adelaide (death registered as Laureen Way)
  • Arabella (1872-1873) born and died at Willunga age 8 months, buried in the Wesleyan Methodist Church Cemetery, Willunga
  • Louis Bartle (or Bartly) (1873-1942) born at Willunga, married Sarah Louisa Roper on 31 March 1903 at St Augustine’s Church, Unley; he died at Murray Bridge
  • Lima (1875-1957) born at Willunga, married Winniefried Stokie at Broken Hill in 1902; died at Leeton, New South Wales, a retired farmer
  • Emily (1877-1880) born and died at Willunga, buried in the Wesleyan Methodist Church Cemetery, Willunga age 3 years
  • Egent (also known as Oscar Edgent) (1878-1964) born at Willunga, married Mary Driscoll at Broken Hill; of Brinkley, South Australia he died at Murray Bridge
  • Vincent Percy (1881-1950) born at Willunga, married May Charlotte Ashworth in 1919 at Maylands, Western Australia; he died at Woolooroo, Western Australia
  • Winford/Winfred (1882-1959) born at Willunga, married Helene Williamson (1891-1963) on 2 January 1919 in Perth, Western Australia; he died in Adelaide
  • Ella Aetna Leamington (1885-1970) born at Willunga, married Charles/Charley George Bird (1882-1947) at the residence of JRP Male in Willunga on 23 October 1907. He was the son of Alfred Bird, died at Aldinga and is buried in the Aldinga Uniting Church Cemetery. Ella died in Adelaide and is buried at Aldinga, St John’s Methodist Church Cemetery
  • Claude Vivian Alban Kent (1887-1968) born at Willunga, married Ernestine Pearl Hunt at Prospect on 18 October 1918; he died at Murray Bridge
  • JRP Male was a farmer at Willunga. He paid rates on a house in the township of Willunga in 1882 and on 70 acres of section 267 in 1883. From 1884 until 1918 he owned 10 Lots (about 4.5 acres) on the West side of St Andrews Terrace between St Patricks St and St Johns Terrace (Lots 119, 120, 123, 124, 127, 128, 131, 132, 135 and 136) within the township of Willunga.

John Robert(s) Percy Male died, aged 92 years, at Willunga on 3 January 1935 and his widow Elizabeth (née Cornelius) died the following year on 4 February 1936 at Willunga. They are both buried at the Wesleyan Methodist (Uniting) cemetery in Willunga.
